Not only are these Berio Folk Songs beautiful and inventive and sincere, but mezzo (and wife) Cathy Berberian completely deceives the eye - and I discovered that I have a prejudice against grey-haired mezzos wearing Armani mumus. She is actually quite fantastic.
Finally, Berio is clearly the epitome of a gentleman conductor. That dude seriously looks like the hipster James Bond of the orchestra. Totally smooth, confident, and digging his own music.
